SCREENPLAY OVERVIEW
Samantha Moon, a seventeen year old Korean American girl, lives by herself in the city, often seeking comfort from her best friend, Julie Kim. Things start to take a dark turn when Owen, Julie’s boyfriend, returns from college with ominous warnings, and Samantha is met with dreams of premonition.
The three of them uncover the disturbing truths that lie hidden within their small town, while trying to survive the shadows of supernatural forces.
THEMES & MESSAGING
The main themes of the film are - The anxieties that come with being a woman, overcoming trauma, and being true to one’s self.
These topics are explored through varying degrees of ambiguity and thoughtfulness. For example, despite the protagonist being very closed off and dressing modestly, she is still sexualized by men throughout her life and the film itself.
Another example being, THE MAN, the central antagonistic force of the film, acting as a metaphor for the evil that men are capable of.
